Project Management, Coordination and Communication.
WP1 ensures that the project will be delivered on time and on budget. Furthermore, WP1 reaches out to future partners supporting the Vision 2030 for connectivity in the Arctic.

Design, Permitting, Studies.
The first objective of WP2 is to prepare all technical studies, surveys and designs that are necessary and preconditions of starting the work to establish redundant connectivity to a future Polar Connect landing site to be constructed in WP4.
The second objective is to explore possible alternative routes for Polar Connect where the marine cable landing station is in the EU, i.e. South Sweden or North Denmark.

The objective of WP3 is to explore how a future submarine cable across the Arctic Ocean can be used for scientific observations:

Terrestrial fiber from Kiruna to Norwegian Border (works).
WP4 aims to establish a second path for resiliency between Kiruna and the Norwegian Border, in a way that there will be a more secure connection between Sweden and the future cable landing station of the submarine cable system to East-Asia (Polar Connect).
The North Pole Fiber project will establish a terrestrial fiber route (approximately 710 km) within Sweden, from Kiruna southwards to Storuman and from there on westwards to Kåtaviken, close to the Norwegian border.
This terrestrial fiber route will reinforce the existing connectivity to a future landing station in Norway for Polar Connect.
