Polar Connect highlighted at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik

The session “Digitizing the Arctic – Science and Industry Synergies” was held at the Arctic Circle Assembly in Reykjavik on October 19, 2024. Jørgen Qvist, Katarina Gårdfeldt and Julia Muchowski presented the Polar Connect initiative (which includes North Pole Fiber). The topics covered during the session were:

  • how to combine fiberoptic cables with scientific data collection/research infrastructure
  • impact and benefits for science and society
  • how to fund an Arctic Cable
  • data management of collected data.

The session was very well attended, and there were fruitful discussions with an interesting combination of speakers and panellists from diverse backgrounds.

Arctic Circle Assembly attracts a wide range of participants covering many aspects of the Arctic. This year, there were more than 2 400 participants, more than 700 speakers and more than 250 sessions.
