On November 6-7, researchers, authorities and actors from civil society gathered in Kiruna for the Forum for the Arctic and Antarctic. In the session News from the Swedish platforms for Polar Science, Julia Muchowski gave a presentation on Polar Connect and the North Pole Fiber. She also had a booth outside the main hall where participants could ask questions between the sessions.

The Forum is a joint effort between Luleå University of Technology, Umeå University and the Swedish Polar Research Secretariat. It was also the starting point of the new Swedish Centre for the Arctic and Antarctic, a collaboration between the three organisations. The Centre aims to coordinate national and international activities that strengthen Swedish research in issues related to the polar regions.

Around 80 people attended Forum, which was held in English. On day two, there were two panel sessions on the topics of “Security in the Arctic” and “Green transition in the Fennoscandian Arctic – how can we cope with goal conflicts?”
